Festival Da Jazz 2018 Dave Grusin Presents The Music From West Side Story

 

The evening will feature world-renowned Academy Award and multiple Grammy-winning pianist/composer, Dave Grusin presenting his ingenious jazz interpretation of Bernstein’s classic West Side Story featuring contemporary Big Band arrangements by Pepe Lienhard and his Big Band.

~ Leonard Bernstein gained worldwide fame in 1961 with his musical «West Side Story» A musical in which a modern day Romeo and Juliet are involved in New York street gangs. On the harsh streets of the upper west side, two gangs battle for control of the turf.  The situation becomes complicated when a gang members falls in love with a rival’s sister.  The turf war between the American «Jets» and the Puerto Rican «Sharks» forms the dramatic backdrop of a gripping tragic romance in the style of Romeo and Juliet and plays in New York of the 1950s.
