Jazz Meets Samba – performances will include Sergio Mendes, Eliane Elias, Joe Lovano and Airto!

Get ready for this intoxicating musical cocktail—an infectious blend of jazz, samba, and American and Brazilian pop. Latin jazz icon Sérgio Mendes is the top-selling Brazilian artist ever to hit the U.S. and, according to The New York Times, is “a proud member of the generation that invented bossa nova.” For this concert event, he joins a stellar lineup including Elaine Elias, Lee Ritenour, Airto Moreira and special guest Joe Lovano.

Grammy-winning, Oscar-nominated pianist-composer-arranger Mendes is an artist whose name has become synonymous with the sounds of his native Brazil. Acclaimed for combining the music of his homeland (particularly the bossa nova) with modern influences ranging from jazz and funk to disco and hip-hop, Mendes is the man behind a long line of chart-topping hits: originals like “Never Gonna Let You Go” and “Olympia,” his jazzy covers of “The Look of Love” and “Fool on the Hill,” and, of course, his first breakthrough single, “Mas Que Nada,” which he recently reworked in collaboration with The Black Eyed Peas.
