Lee Ritenour with John Beasley, Tom Kennedy and Wes Ritenour

Excited to perform at this new club in Melbourne, Australia and look forward to seeing all of the dear friends and fans in that region!

Birdland New York is the original club of Charlie Parker. The club has been the home of the most famous musicians since 1949. As Allan Morrison, the long-time editor of Ebony once put it, “Birdland was both a cultural vantage point and a barometer of trends where all the big names in jazz performed.” The club closed down in 1965 and having reopened it’s doors in 1986 and it has since regained its place as the jazz corner of the world. After 32 years of operations, for the first time Birdland extends it’s banner outside New York in the form of Bird’s Basement in Melbourne. Melbourne is very proud to be the host of Bird’s legacy. Bird’s Basement promises to be stage of past, present and future legends.

During most nights, artists perform two concerts per night, a dinner show at 7:45pm and supper show at 10pm. Both shows are ticketed separately with tickets to be pre-purchased through Ticketek or online through our own system (see more below). Tickets are not transferrable and do not allow you to attend the second show on the same night (however there may be exceptions, see with the venue manager on the night).

Depending on the night, our tickets either sell through Ticketeck (with strict seat allocation) or directly through our own ticketing system. Our own ticketing system is on a “first in best served” basis. With our system, all your party whether 2 or 20 are assured to be sitted together on the night. However the allocation is made manually and you will only know where you are sitting when you arrive at the venue. We allocate the best possible seats first in order of date of purchase. It is a fair system which reduces the cost of ticket charges. Upon purchasing with our system, your will receive an email with your electronic tickets. You will either print or present your phone screen at the box office on arrival at the club.

Whilst the music is front and centre, Bird’s Basement’s refinement is extended to the kitchen under the supervision of Italian Head Chef Gigi Buono. We serve delicious Italian food and offer a selection of great wines (either bottle or by the glass). You can be sure to enjoy a complete experience. Menu is ordered a la carte on the night.

Doors open each night at 6:00pm, with the first concert starting at 7:45pm and finishing at 9:15pm. The venue is completely turned over for the second show with doors re-opening at 9:30pm, supper concert commencing at 10:00pm and finishing at 11:15pm. Venue closes at midnight.
